Our trip was awesome! The guide was friendly and informative, the sites were well cared-for. We had a great time.bring bug spray.
Excellent tour of a beautiful island!
Wonderful trip, guide was amazing, great time picking up shells, riding atvs with occasional stops to swim and pick up shells, nice visit to the village, and an enjoyable boat ride.
We were slower walking than our tour guide and the young couple that went with us, they walked ahead and we brought up the rear. (my husband has broke his foot and its very hard for him to walk in sand). The first hour we thought we were just on our own. The guide would tell our companions things and then they would drive off. He never relayed what he said to them to us. I don't know if he preferred young people on this tour opposed to people in there 50's but we didn't feel we were part of the group. We would never go on this tour again. We came down from Duck, the Ferry ride was a new, fun experience that we enjoyed, we had lunch and a drink at the Jolly Roger before leaving for this trip, lots of fun there... We would come back and have dinner or lunch on Ocracoke Island but that would be it. Only seen the Historical buildings from the return boat ride because the guide said the bugs were too bad to go back in there. ( which after the initial beach walk we probably wouldn't have done that part anyway)
We had a lot of fun on this tour! Our guide Matt was very knowledgeable about the island and the area in general. The bugs were not bad at the village so we got to spend some time there exploring also. That was very interesting to learn about the history on the island. I highly recommend this tour if you get a chance!
Once we arrived at the Island and are on the beach, we thought the ATV's would be right there.... But nope, you have to walk about 1/2 mile to reach them. We were told they are right around the bend..... Yes about 1/2 mile walk away. We were prepared for bugs from reading the reviews.... And yes they are bad. terrible biting flies even out on the beach.
My Husband and I booked this trip after reading the reviews and thought it sounded like a fun, informational outing. I only gave it 3 stars because I didn't expect a Yacht by any means, but I was a little shocked at the small boat that we took to reach the Island. ( no seats, the other young couple that went along sat on a cooler, while we sat on some sort of box that I guess held the life jackets that we were not given to wear). When my husband asked where the life jackets were, we were told under us in the box but the water isn't that deep ? I don't know boat lingo, but we skimmed across the water quite fast, hitting quite hard at times and we all hung on. I really did fear I was going to flip right out of this boat. Then when you reach this Island you go to the front of the boat, sit down, swing your legs around and drop down into the water. ( which was only a couple inches deep and quite warm. but getting back in was a little more difficult for us slightly older, and larger people, because you climb back up over the front to get back on the boat).
